Sad Vinyl manufacturing
To go with the recent Sony news, take a look at this;

http://www.viryltech.com

I certainly wouldn't have expected something like this 15years ago when vinyl sales hit rock bottom.

We need to give ourselves a pat on the back for supporting it through the dark years.

Absolutely.

Linn, Rega (and Technics until 2010!) all collectively championed the format of vinyl even in its darkest days and never completely lost faith in it. They are due a debt of gratitude.

Project should also get a big mention for manufacturing turntables through the dark days of the late 90's and early 2000.

RE: Vinyl manufacturing
Turntable manufacturers supported vinyl because they made money. No matter how committed to the format no one could have sustained producing a product that didn't make money for very long.

Deffo.

There are a few.

Sort of... although they carried on initially because the Eastern Bloc hadn't actually adopted CD like the West had.

DJs and the rise of dance music as an industry throughout the 90s, too. The pressing plants, in particular, Optimal in Berlin will tell you that.

Yes, although the format was virtually dead by 2004. I ordered a pressing from Damont which must have been their last before they closed down. I received no invoice. The Technics SL1200 which by that time existed purely as a DJ deck (terribly underrated) only lasted a few more years, so demand must have been poor.

True, indeed
Once Pioneer introduced their CDJ units, the SL-1210s' days were numbered. By the time the CDJs could play digital files off a USB key, there wasn't any further reason.
Intriguingly - or perhaps not really - once Technics announced they were discontinuing the decks in 2010, their value has held steady.

By the early '00s, 180g vinyl and so-called audiophile pressings were gaining traction.

Swings and roundabouts... Smile
