Amazon Echo: Initiate streaming NAS to DS?
Dear all,

just talking to Amazon Echo: "Alexa".
She´s pretty good in recognizing commands.

Now I wonder, if "Alexa" could get Linn Kazoo into her "skills" portfolio.

"Alexa, play Ray Brown Trio"

Cheers,
Frank

Have they been recorded and rendered sensibly? (S.Linkwitz)

I asked that - but at the time I was given encouraging noises that they were indeed looking at the new innovations on the market such as Alexa but there was no hint to what that might mean for this. So maybe some sort of update would be neat. Such as - it should be ready by Monday Smile

When browsing around in Amazon Echos "skills" you find there even apps from small local soccer clubs etc. where you can ask for latest scores and upcoming events.

So, writing the API for Kazoo shouldn´t be unrealistic.

Maybe some dialogue would be necessary to specify the desired song. ("Which album or song do you want to listen to ?")
Maybe Alexa needs a further command to "play on my LINN" i.s.o. her small onboard speaker.

RE: Amazon Echo: Initiate streaming NAS to DS?
getting closer.....
Meanwhile Alexa understands and plays the requested music from SPOTIFY.

Although a redirection of the SPOTIFY stream to Linn ADS
must still be accomplished by selecting Linn on my smartphones app as renderer.

If Alexa would understand „play xyz on LINN“ ....music selection would be hands-free!

Linn's position on this issue is explained in this thread, and sounds reasonable to me. Essentially, they will consider making the DS software Echo compatible if and when it works better in the conventional DS/DSM use case than it does at present. It is particularly interesting that Amazon does not currently seem to support effectively local streaming from a NAS or services other than its own.

David, 'conventional DS/DSM use case'. I understand this but I think it is perhaps better termed as Linn's internal view of what that use case is. I hope they get that right. Kazoo, Konfig, Jukebox, etc.

We shall have to wait and see I guess.

Have you used one? Echo supports streaming from Spotify. Linn will need to integrate with Kazoo or other server, as the application needs to match users albums, artists etc.

I personally find the Echo use for selecting music very effective. We can only wait and see what great user interface will come from the 'conventional' Linn DS stable, because currently IMHO Linn may exceed in sound quality but lag dramatically in user approach!

...maybe a smart, voice controlled LINN DS would reach out further than e.g. an "audiophile NAS" ?
