Removing Aktiv Cards
Just a quick question guys - how much would you expect a dealer to charge to remove active cards from 2 amps please?

Thanks.

Correct. And that was my view.

Except I did something today and emailed the closest dealer to me, who years ago I vowed I would never go near again because of his elitest, up his own backside attitude, and he's quoted me £30 - £40 as he's the only one 'qualified' to do it.

The only reason I bothered was for pure convenience as he's the nearest at the moment by some distance. That seems excessive to me.

The 10 minutes include:
- Getting a cloth so the top won't scratch.
- Placing the amp bottom side up on the cloth.
- Removing the screws from the bottom.
- Figuring out how to slide the top off (it depends per model, so the next 2 steps may be reversed).
-- Turning the amp top side up.
-- Removing the top plate.
- Removing the screws, 2 per each, fromt the Aktiv cards.
- Gently lifting the Aktiv cards.
- Sliding the top back on.
- Turning the amp again
- Returning the screws again.

If necessary I can do it in 5.

So excessive seems to be an appropriate choice of words.

I need to be a bit careful about this appearing to be a personal grievance with this particular guy though, in truth, it probably isn't far away.

He's entitled to charge what he wants and people have a choice whether to use him or not. That's accepted. However, the fact that he has done this to me before leads me to believe that he'll likely be fleecing others and with the good name of Linn stamped all over it. I can't abide people being ripped off, especially for something that's apparently so elementary for someone knowledgeable enough to do it.

It's really easy to do this job yourself. that said a decent dealer wouldn't charge you anything.

I am absolutely sure you are right but never having done it before it's a 'safe not sorry' approach from me.

I am just aghast at this clown having the temerity to charge that amount of money for what is apparently 10 minutes work. I can't argue that it isn't entirely his right to charge what he likes and if people decide to indulge his pomposity that's up to them.

In the main I have always found Linn dealers to be quite reasonable and accommodating, often taking time with demos and time to explain things that people need a bit of time to get their head around. Like you I suspect a lot of them would just do it for you but, as a Northener, that was never an expectation of mine as I don't take owt for nowt. Big Grin

The one I usually deal with isn't the most flash but the blokes in there are always really helpful.

Anyway, tomorrow's another day and, this time, I'll keep my promise never to darken his door again. Shame for him really, I may be after a KDSM next year as my system is a changing.......Shy

I'll take the risk. We'll have the amps done in 15 mins whilst the system warms up and the first brew is sorted.
