Simple Guide to Digitizing Vinyl with Songcorder and Vinylstudio for Mac
I have created a brief guide for Mac owners looking for an easy way to digitize their vinyl records.

Here it is:

The guide is now featured on the Songcorder page as well. Thanks, JensA!

Here it is:

I could not install the SongCorder app on my Mac.

But for many Mac owners there is an easier way to digitise analogue content:

Connect the optical out on your DS to the optical in on your Mac.

Use the open source Audacity software to record as a file.

That's it!

Note: it seems that not all Macs have an optical input. I use an old (black) MacBook for this purpose.

Guussie,

I used to record vinyl using Vinystudio with our „old“ 2008 Macbook (which had a digital audio in) directly connected to the DSM.

The problem is that Apple stopped offering computers with an optical input a couple of years ago, so there is virtually no means to link a DS(M) to a „modern“ Mac without an external device which does the „conversion“ to USB, Thunderbolt or Ethernet.

Songcorder is providing an excellent software based HiRes solution to solve this problem by using the - in most cases already existing - Ethernet connection between the DSM and the Mac.

Also, optical is restricted to I think 96/24. If you had an Akurate or higher, the output stream is 192/24. Also, Audacity can be skittish and lose data when recording. With songcorder you don't ever miss anything thanks to the IP protocol.

♫ ♫ Akurate EDSM | Majik ExaktBox-I [on Custom Design iRAPs] | Majik 140, REL T5
♫ ♫ Rega RP1, [QNAP HS-251+, Jitterbug, MinimServer, Asset], Kazoo [Linx1010]

AV: Marantz NR1506 | B&W 620(C), M1(S), REL T5 (LFE) | Fronts powered by Linn
Net: NetGear DGN2200 | GS108 | AQ Forest x3

Owning a Majik DSM the limit is 96/24 either way Sad

(However I doubt that I could tell the difference...)
