Re-wiring Sondek LP-12
We have a Sondek purchased in 77/78. It’s in really good condition and fully functional.

It was originally purchased with a UK plug, but was changed to a Singaporean plug some time in the 80s.

We’ve recently relocated it to the UK, so will need to fit a UK plug back.

The trouble is I can only see two identical brown wires. I’ve googled, but can’t seem to work out which is the neutral and which the live wire.

I’m aware that this is some trivial electrical work, but given the enormous sentimental value, I wanted to make sure it’s done correctly!

Thanks

RE: Re-wiring Sondek LP-12
I'd recommend that you take the deck to a local dealer and have him rewire it with the correct 3 core UK mains cable and earth connection to the chassis.

[ With a two core AC lead it doesn't actually matter which wire goes to live & which to neutral but the deck is not currently wired correctly for the UK and should be checked over by a dealer to ensure that it is A, safe to use and B, in good working order.]

Absolutely. From a safety viewpoint, it must have all exposed metal parts earthed.

UK models had three core flex. Even that age.

Good advice, the last time we tried helping with a line wiring question the Linn Forum Monitors got the willies and took down the diagram.
I certainly can't blame them, they don't want to be involved in any way with your untimely demise due to electrocution.

There is a spot on the circuit board that the third ground (earth) wire needs to be soldered to. As stated above the hot and cold are interchangeable (not polarized), but take it in and have it professionally serviced to give all piece of mind.SmileSmileSmile

It also originally came with a UK 3 pin plug, so I would expect it to have originally come with a 3 core cable. Sad

Perhaps not...
