Upgrade from Artikulat or Ekos
Long story short, what would produce the best improvement.. upgrading Artikulate 320A’s to Klimax or upgrading my Ekos2 to Ekos se? Also, any idea how much $ to upgrade to Klimax320s from Artikulate?
As always thank you

LP12, Klimax Radikal, Urika, Keel, Ekos 2, Kandid, KK1/D, Lejonklou Tundra Mono 2 Tarandus, Pekin Tuner, 242s Mk2, RelB1 on top of Aurelex Sub Dude, Quadraspire Acrylic Reference Rack and wall mount, 2 dedicated circuits.

RE: Upgrade from Artikulat or Ekos
I could be wrong, but by the Linn order of business, wouldn’t you do source before electronics?

The Ekos SE would seem to be next, especially since you already have the Kandid.

You appear to have a nice Linn based system. What does your dealer/specialist recommend?

It’s about the music, not the gear. Just listen - or not.

Thank you for your kind words Sir. In speaking with my dealer, he of course recommends both… However suggesting to go for climax Upgrade before tonearm. He said the only reason he’s suggesting it in this order is he’s not certain how much longer Linn will offer the climax update for the 320s.
I have to think active 320s with my current source and the preamp should be a nice increase in musicality over what I currently have. While the climax twin is a great amp, there’s something so special about going active as we all know

There are times when other orders make sense.

Some have said to upgrade to Ekos SE before Keel (from Ittok) so as not to have to drill the Keel for the arm rest. I drilled my Kore, but bought the Ekos SE before deciding to spring for the Keel. It worked.

I remain unconvinced about some of the official ideas myself. I guess in the USA it’s hard to abandon the notion that cartridge and speakers help you hear upgrades in other areas more clearly.

And a Linn system beyond the LP12 itself is a rarity here. Although class A power doubling with load halving amps never go out of style, and it would seem that electrostatic speakers with matched subwoofer are similarly timeless.

So once you get away from the LP12, the rest of what we might think is probably considered irrelevant.

RE: Upgrade from Artikulat or Ekos
Hi,

Sorry, can't really answer your original question, but having a pair of Klimax 320A:s and a similar Ekos I might at least stir things up a bit....

When I bought mine they were un-Dynamiked so that's the only upgrade they've had. That, however, was a huge improvement so I can only imagine what Artikulate>Klimax+Dynamik would do!

Naturally, an Ekos SE is also an improvement but if you are keep the 320:s I'd get them up to top spec before it's too late. But please keep in mind (as others have said) that they most likely are a dead end.

And do replace those flimsy original stands if you haven't already as they are utter crap! :-)

While I agree that crap in = crap out it is also fair to consider that the electro mechanicals in a system are likely the weak spots if everything is at a decent level.

Regarding the stands, do they still perform poorly when filled with either sand or shot? My 212 stands way back improved very nicely when filled with sand

As for a dead end... I do not, nor care to stream, nor go exact and digitize the signal of my lp12.
