difference between bearing grey liner and black liner
Hi,
Does anyone know what the difference is between the grey lining and black lining in a LP12 bearing.

I can only see that there were models with black and models with white looking through your forum.

Thanks!

The black bearing liner was the latest incarnation of the two. The black one was fitted with air holes to allow the inner platter to sink down much faster.

RE: difference between bearing grey liner and black liner
The light colored bearing is made of PTFE, basically Teflon.

The newer black bearing is PEEK, a material that can hold tighter dimensional tolerances than PTFE.

RE: difference between bearing grey liner and black liner
If you have a bearing sleeve on an LP12 that looks grey it is probably a white one colored by the black oil Linn use. This can give it a grey appearance. The newer PEEK sleeves are black, or maybe you might call them charcoal colored. There has not been another sleeve besides these two. The Cirkus bearing housing and the one previous to it both used PEEK with three small holes between the plastic and the metal housing to allow the inner platter to settle more easily. However, the bearing housing previous to those two also had the three holes but in the white PTFE plastic. All these had black metal bearing housings. None of the previous versions had the three small holes and all were white PTFE.
