Urika II tonearm compatibility
I was told at a recent Linn event that my Ittok LVIII would not be compatible with the Urika II, and that I would need to upgrade to something more current. I don't understand why this would be the case. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thank you.

LP12 (S/N 14xxx), Black ash plinth, Cirkus, Radikal, Kore, Ittok LVIII Mark 2, Krystal, Audiotech stand, Urika II, 530 system

RE: Urika II tonearm compatibility
I suspect the message may have been subtly different.

You do not have an exakt-enabled DS or DSM, which the Urika 2 requires. Nor would a Urika 2 be the best way of spending money, given your current system. You need a Tramp 2, Keel, and Ekos SE before it would make sense to go Urika 1 let alone 2.

I suggest you reopen the conversation with your dealer. Source first and all that....

Perhaps they intend to model the behaviour of the arm in Exakt, too, as well as the cartridge. Perhaps it will only include the Akito and Ekos SE.

Just a guess...

The intent is to purchase an Exakt system. I thought my next step after that would to be the Urika II. I can certainly see the merit of getting a Keel before phono pre-amp. But I do think that upgrading from Akurate DSM MC phono stage might be a good plan as well.

I think you may be onto something. I just couldn't think of any physical reason that one couldn't connect an Ittok and have music come out of the speakers. If it is a matter of modeling the tonearm in Konfig, then that is another story.

No technical reason to change your tonearm. If I were you I would go to another dealer as I would not trust the one who said you need to swap your Ittok.

RE: Urika II tonearm compatibility
That is correct, but not for the reasons you might think.

It is the arm rest for the Ittok.

It pokes through underneath and will hit the Urika casework.

There are a couple of options, you could shorten the threads that are underneath - it is really long anyway, not sure why. Would just need to be careful to not damage the threads.

You could also perhaps move it up by fitting an extra nut to the top side.

Hope this explains things and helps.

Regards,

David

Ah, but he has an Ittok LVIII, and if it's the last version the LVIII/2 it has no separate armrest.

LP12 + Cirkus + Tranquility + Lingo 2 + Ittok LVII + Troika + Linto • Acer Aspire One + Uptone ReGen + TeraDak U9 PS + Audiophilleo2 with PurePower + Numerik • Kremlin • Kairn 3 • Linn Blacks + Mogami 3173 • Slimline Aktiv Tunebox • 3x LK280 + 2x Spark • K600 • Aktiv Kabers + 038/2 tweeters.

In that case it will be the mycelium spore engine, creating an negative rift in the space time continuum.

(Or perhaps we will wait for the OP to give us some more details)
