Linn Cirkus/Kore Upgrade
Hi

I'm going to upgrade my LP12 from 1984 which I got recently in perfect condition.

First thing I wanna do is the Cirkus upgrade but I'm wondering if it does make sense to do it together with a Kore upgrade? The Cirkus upgrade kit includes the Majik subchassis right? So can I exclude that Majik subchassis and get a Kore instead and save some money?

The Cirkus upgrade no longer includes a sub-chassis. Kore over the standard aluminum sub-chassis (Majik) will definitely yield better results. Go for it Big Grin

RE: Linn Cirkus/Kore Upgrade
Yes as Kiko65 says; the Cirkus kit does not come with a sub-chassis these days as with three different options; the Majik, Kore and Keel it would be too complicated really.

The difference in price for you between buying a Majik at £330.00 or a Kore at £800.00 is £470.00 and as such represents an excellent upgrade for the money.

Best regards,

Peter

Thank you, so the Circus Kit won't fit without a Subchassis upgrade right? Probably will go for a used standard Subchassis now and then later go directly for the Keel.

RE: Linn Cirkus/Kore Upgrade
Correct. You at minimum require a bonded steel chassis with double thickness metal at the bearing mounting point.

RE: Linn Cirkus/Kore Upgrade
Definitely go for the Cirkus and Kore.... my LP 12 was old and original and the addition of those upgrades made a huge improvement.

+ you will be able to resell kore better when you finally go for keel.

+1 on this. A very valid point to consider.

RE: Linn Cirkus/Kore Upgrade
I am also thinking about upgrading a newly acquired pre-Cirkus LP-12. A Kore sub chassis is a way off for me and I'm pretty sure I have an older steel sub chassis, not the bonded double layer one. I'm wondering if the most cost-effective ideas is to look for a used Cirkus subchassis? Seems like a used Majik sub-chassis is not worth the expense.

I'm debating the way forward...it seems like incrementally upgrading is costly over the long run. If my goal is something like a Cirkus, Ittok, Lingo 1/2 it might be cheaper to just sell mine (pre-Circus, restored Valhalla and Akito 1) and buy a complete higher spec table. I honestly don't see ever getting to a current, Akurate level table.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

RE: Linn Cirkus/Kore Upgrade
bmdduck... I did what you are proposing.
Purchase an upgraded LP12 and sell yours.
I had the opportunity to trade mine at my audio shop.
Valhalla, pre Cirkus, to Lingo 1, Cirkus, + newer plinth!
It was a very economical and good musical move.
