serial numbers 2
Any info of year please,
I have no s/n outside my LP12.
So I opened it up to find a label on the motor and some engraving on the chassis.
I attach pics.[attachment=12372][attachment=12372]

not sure how to view attachments, any info please?

Anyway the no's on motor are
9904 111 0482
MB 10 5078

Also engraved on chassis
16/05/89

RE: serial numbers 2
The motors are not made by Linn and are interchangeable so not much help. The date on the chassis will be when that was made.

Not too much help to you but the serial number of the top plate which is normally that of the deck is hand scratched on the underside of the top plate but it is probably obscured by the sub-chassis.

The serial numbers don't mean too much as so many parts are swapped on LP12s during their life time. More important is the version of each part e.g. Cirkus bearing, laminated armboard, corner bolt on the top plate etc.

Thanks for quick response, I should have added 1 bought it after it had 1 owner and was in pristine condition and has a Grace Supex 900 stylus with a Lentek 9v pre-amp.

The Supex cartridge and Grace arm was popular around the mid to late 70s. It probably has an Afromosia fluted plinth if that’s original too.

Yes fluted plinth,
some more pics attached, any idea on the age from no's supplied?
Some people think the motor label gives a clue.

RE: serial numbers 2
The engraved top plate and the rubber mat, as opposed to the laterfelt mat, suggest to me that it’s an early one. That would mean that the plinth has been changed, as a very early one would have a slot near the arm pillar for the lid support. They were also available as chassis only, so it’s possible it was fitted into a plinth in the late 70s.

RE: serial numbers 2
That looks just like the first Linns I saw in about 1976. The felt mat came later. As did the unsmoked lid, without the metal bar glued to it. Lentek dates it too!

I’ve still got the ribbed rubber mat that came with mine. I think they called them ‘export’ models if supplied with a blank arm board. No such thing as a Linn system back then; it was just a turntable! About £100 I vaguely recall...

RE: serial numbers 2
Looking at the serial number history then it looks like it is between 1979 and 1982. That is, pre Valhalla but with the smoked lid without the support and with the later hinges.
