Hello,

You can use the 2 channels of the DSM/2 for any output you like as far as I understand, but the other 4 (or 3.1) channels will have to be done using Exakt.
So in essence you need at least two Exaktboxes or your additional speakers need to be Exakt.
From my point of view I would go for two (Majik) Exaktboxes and would connect them to the front and the rear speaker and have the centre and sub connected to the DSM. That would be a relatively inexpensive solution, if the speakers are supported by Exakt (most Linn-speakers should be).

Best regards,
Martin

RE: Majik DSM Surround
Linn surround using Exakt is not officially released.

Current method is to use AV receiver for other channels. Personally would use an AV receiver with pre outs and feed front left and right to Majik input set to unity gain. Receiver does all tbe HDMI stuff and decoding. Majik does front channel amplification and all stereo music. In my view the best option for ease of use and no issues with sync on AV

Hello,

I do not know if it is "officially released", but what I can tell you I am using it.
And from what I read here I am not the only one.

I had a setup before using a DSM and an AV Receiver (a Kisto) and this could not really convince me mainly due to the fact that the decoding was always an issue and the synchronisation of the speakers (distance adjustments) did not work for me.
So I decided to go all Exakt for my surround setup.

Best regards,
Martin

RE: Majik DSM Surround
The OP does not have Exakt.

So the easiest is as CJ suggests - a 5.1 receiver with pre-outs for the front left and right which feed to a unity gain input on the DSM. The receiver uses its internal amps for the centre and rears and the DSM amps for the front left and right.
A better way is to add a pre-processor (Marantz and Arcam do them with current processing technology, a Linn Akurate Kontrol/0 is another way but doesn't support the very latest processing but does Dolby Digital and DTS which is pretty good!) and then add an amp such as a Majik 3100, 4100 etc., to power the centre and rears. Then add lots of cables to the mix.

Speakers to suit the Ninkas are Trikan or Ekwal for the centre, Katans or more Ninkas for the rears. Add a subwoofer from from BK or REL. Or from Linn if you can find one.

Hello,

I was under the impression that the Majik DSM/2 has Exakt-Output, but again I might be mistaken.

Martin

RE: Majik DSM Surround
You're right. The MDSM/2 is Exakt capable.

Hello
I had a setup using Ninkas (passiv) connected to a Linn AV (Kisto and 5103) some time ago. In this setup I was also using a Trikan as centre and Sizmik 10.25.
However I had Komponent 104 as rears, due to room limitations.
I liked the setup, but I would rather follow the suggestion to use Katans or more Ninkas if the room (and budget) permits.
Best regards,
Martin
