Wink [Fixed/Sorted] URGENT - Amp Gain setting?
Help!
Hi all, hope someone can answer quickly as I'm rebuilding my system today.. I have already come across a hurdle!

I know the gain setting on my amp channels should be set to 3 when no Activ cards are fitted (ie. the default) but on the M2100 I can't tell what it's set to. The 6100 has a little arrow but the 2100 could be one of 4!

6100 (sorry it's blurry but you can see the arrow):

2100 - is it the line of the screw head, in which case is it set to 3 or -2? Or is it across the line (like the 6100, but indicated by the dimples on either side rather than an arrow) in which case is this set to 0 or mute?:

RE: URGENT - Amp Gain setting?
Hi I'm sorry I'm not familiar with these amps but generally it is the slot that indicates.

Looking at an online manual I would say that it is the dimple, which one points to zero when off.

Fluted Lp12, Valhalla, Cirkus, Michell Techno A, Goldring 2100. Elliot Sounds Phono pre. Marantz cd6006. Lehmann pre/headphone amp. 3 x LK100. Active Kabers, (Scanspeak D2008 tweeters). DIY Ikea coffee table rack.

RE: URGENT - Amp Gain setting?
Pretty sure they only work with Aktiv cards - in other words it doesn't matter where they're set if there are no cards installed.

ADs/2 -> Klimax Exaktbox/1 -> Silvers -> 2xKCT/D -> K200 -> Ninka

Trouble is there are 2 dimples on either side of the slot. So if I set one dimple to 3, the other will be indicating -2. There is no end stop either.

Thanks for the help, but if that were true why would the manual say it should be set to 3 if there are no Aktiv cards?

I'm not at home now so that I could check, but I'm pretty sure you should adjust them like in this (click on "show rear") picture.
If in doubt, call the Helpline.

My system: LP12/Keel/Radikal/Urika/Ekos 2/Akiva/Akurate DSM Katalyst/ Kudos /2 x Majik 6100-D/Akubarik (externally active). Cisco WS-C2960-8TC-L/ QNAP 219P II / Grado PS500e.

RE: URGENT - Amp Gain setting?
Thanks Tendaberry. That's what I think too, but there seems no way of knowing if that's set to 3 or -2, going by the two dimples!
I'll give the helpline a ring.

Well done Phino. You were absolutely right. According to Helpline Colin - no Aktiv cards, then the pot setting makes no difference.
Phew.

RE: URGENT - Amp Gain setting?
The Gain settings work with or without Aktiv cards fitted.
The red adjusters have a white line painted on one side, just visible on the adjuster for channel one in Timster's photo pointing to +4.
The white adjusters have an arrow moulded into the end of the stalk, pointing to position 3 (default position) in Timster's photo.
Also, as an aside, there was a printing change made some years back in an attempt to make the adjuster settings more meaningful by using -3, 0, and +4 markings.

Best,

Dan

Thanks Dan! So Colin was in error?

I now see the white lines, painted down the side of the pot. No wonder I couldn't see them face-on!

Just to be sure - hopefully these are now set to +3?

Yes, they are now set to +3 which will make them 3dB louder than the settings of the amp with the white adjusters in the first post.

FYI, the parts are actually a binary coded decimal switch rather than a pot, and they are used to control a circuit deeper into the product. There is no audio passing through the switches.

Best,

Dan

RE: [Fixed/Sorted] URGENT - Amp Gain setting?
I am confused. The white adjusters on the first post (from the 6100) are pointing to 3 - does that mean setting number 3, rather than +3 then?
Basically, what should the pointer/white line be pointing at for a) the 6100 with the white adjusters and b) the 2100 with the red adjusters?
