Heard a few scare stories!

What's the genuine truth?

Mines been plugged in since I bought it!

Yes, they were designed to be left powered up. However, like any other electronic circuit, parts will wear out and there are a couple of resistors on the board that run very hot. If you’re concerned, you could switch it off overnight - we did this when I worked for a dealer.

If really concerned, get it serviced. Darren at Class A in Sheffield offers this service for under £100. Some dealers may also do it themselves, but many just send them to Class A anyway.

Thank you, ok I will relax! ;-)

I gather the Valhalla (pic) has had some components replaced recently

Surely for peace of mind you should unplug it when not in use, I unplug everything possible at bedtime.

Wow you spend some time switching everything back on with the number of items plugged in, in most homes anyway!

Yes, it is fine to leave it powered up. I haven't had a customer who has had a fire, etc. from leaving the Valhalla plugged in - it was meant to be used that way.

However, I don't believe that board has been rebuilt. Those appear to be the same original caps that Linn used on some of their production. In addition if either Darran, Stan or I rebuild a Valhalla we would also replace the input resistor with a MOV and the rectifier with an improved cube shaped one (this was an upgrade long recommended by Linn which they used to supply a kit for). So it would be a good idea for you to have it rebuilt as it will perform better and last you another 30 plus years (unless you are planning to upgrade to a Lingo 4 or Radikal).

You might be right Tom. We had plenty of those caps here & the dropper resistors look remarkably healthy for the level of board burn. OP rebuild your PS if you wish.
